Geodes

Geodes are round, hollow stones with a surprise inside—crystals! Sometimes they are egg-shaped, leading to the ancient name “thunder eggs.”

Geodes may be rough, even ugly on the outside, or they may be polished. Always, they are mysterious and magical.

Geodes may contain more than one kind of crystal. The most common is crystal is quartz, but geodes often contain amethyst or citrine crystals. They may contain garnets or other semiprecious stones or softer (but equally beautiful) stones such as sky blue celestite, emerald green hiddenite, and others.

Geodes come in all sizes, from less than an inch across to two or three feet in diameter. The most common sizes of geodes you will find for sale are between two and three inches in diameter.

Often the clusters you find for sale are pieces cut from huge geodes during mining in Brazil or Mexico. We are sometimes able to offer amethyst geodes halves or sections almost two feet tall.

We often carry agate and crystal geode slice bookends. They make wonderfully elegant gifts.
