Temples Gate proudly offers a blissful selection of unusual and beautiful Buddha and Quan Yin statues, Tara figures, Tibetan Buddhist bowls, prayer flags, malas (prayer beads), and wall hangings.
Buddhas
Buddha is not a name. It is a title.
A buddha is a person who has achieved enlightenment, escaped the cycle of rebirth and now helps others achieve enlightenment through teachings and example (life story and writings). Tibetans believe that there are at least several hundred buddhas now.
According to the Vietnamese Buddhist monk, best-selling author and beloved teacher Thich Nat Han, each culture that embraces buddhist philosophy develops its own images of Gautama Siddhartha, to whom the Tibetans refer as “the historical buddha.”
We offer a large range of Buddha figures, from the slender, beautiful Buddha figures of Southeast Asia to the traditional fat, jolly Buddhas of Chinese Buddhism.
Quan Yin
Quan Yin (sometimes spelled Kwan Yin) is beloved by many as a female buddha and honored by others as a boddhisattva, one who has achieved enlightenment but chooses to return, reborn over and over to help all sentient beings achieve enlightenment.
Tara
Tara was one of the oldest and most powerful goddesses of India. Her name is so old that scholars cannot be sure of its origin, but it is thought to come from the ancient Indo-European root world meaning star.
Tara was adopted into buddhism as the embodiment of compassion. Some consider her to be the original model for Quan Yin.
Tara is called the spiritual mother of Tibet, where she is deeply revered as the Savioress who comes instantly to the aid of anyone who calls upon her—even if they do not believe in her.
